for the 2026 off-kilter cabaret :
"Pick Your Paradox!"
ARE NOW OPEN!
Artists are asked to create a performance piece that is 5-10 minutes in length that speaks to the theme of this year’s Off-Kilter Cabaret: Pick Your Paradox!
Our modern world is full of opposites that manage to coexist simultaneously, and societal messages that sound impossible - - or illogical? - - but aren't. "It's the beginning of the end!" "Less is more!" "You're a beautiful wreck." "Silence speaks volumes." "We can all be alone together." "The only constant is change!"
Is there a paradox you've noticed in your own life? Does it frustrate you to no end? Or does it explain who you are, and bring you comfort? How do we hold seemingly dissonant things at the same time – grief and joy, love and disgust, ability and disability? Is there something magical that can come from this reality made of infinite realities?
These are just some ideas of how you could play with the theme “Pick Your Paradox!”, please feel free to run with your own interpretation and allow it to inspire your proposal!
