Creating The Jury

Off-Leash Area continues its Tenth Anniversary Season
with its 18th original work, The Jury.
The Jury
unravels the tangled fabric of a young woman's violent past
to judge her innocence or guilt for a charge of murder.

Performed by a powerful cast of dancers and actors immersed in a visual world of fabric and sculpture, The Jury is our search for the balance between social and individual responsibility for our young women and men who use and experience violence as part of their daily lives. The Jury is born from the hope that we each have the power to make real change in our community.

An Off-Leash Area Blast from the Past....
The Gryphon (2001)

Jennifer Ilse as "The Raven"

The Gryphon
was our original story about a young man who unwittingly commits a horrible crime. For his punishment, the God Apollo changes him into a gryphon, the mythological beast half-lion and half-vulture, and banishes him to a cave for eternity. Suspended above him (and out of his reach!) is a beautiful white raven, the key to his salvation. Within the cave walls reside the ghosts of a murdered family. The Gryphon's ensuing struggle to remember his past yields a battle between free will and destiny that leads to redemption unsought.

Performed by Penelope Freeh, Shari Nyman, Marc Doty, Jennifer Ilse,
and Paul Herwig, with lighting by Paul Epton.
