Crimes & Whispers (2006)

Performed at Jawahiir Dance Studio

Winner of an Outstanding Choreography Ivey Award for Gerry Girouard (Artistic Associate)

Chosen among City Pages' Best Sets of 2006

Crimes and Whispers, a theatrical dance performance, fuses the acrobatic modern dance choreography of Gerry Girouard, the expertise of master Tango dancer and Buenos Aires native Florencia Taccetti, and the theatrical imagination of Off-Leash Area to tell the story of Argentina’s “disappeared.”  This true story about the struggle between power and justice and Argentina’s brutal military Junta from the 1970’s is a universal metaphor for any people faced with an overwhelmingly powerful government who calls for war and patriotism, and a public too afraid to question authority.
